Totally enjoyed reading it - I tip my hat to you Philip and thank you much for your commentary. MSFT is the loser with your observational insight walking out the door.

I loved the thoughts in there, and they will be very useful to me in everything I do in the future. Thank you so much for being my mentor for a brief period of time, and I would love to keep in touch with you if possible.

I found your post via a link in an email message dated Thu 9/18/2008 12:00 AM and titled Top 10 most useful secrets in Office. After reading the section “About the author” and the fact that you managed to almost get fired twice, I had to read more about this intriguing and well written writer.

Your writing is silly, crazy, witty, fun and moving - all in the most wonderful of ways. Besides, you mentioned two of my favorite songs in your post about Neil and Kathy. They are lucky to have a friend like you in their lives...

I have one question for you (strictly from a motherly perspective): Why aren't you married yet?!?!?!

Hi - I am very intrigued by your comments.

I currently live with a young married couple (early-mid twenties), and the young lady is Chinese, fresh off the boat as the old expression goes. While I have come to like them very much on a personal level, I have found that their standards of order and cleanliness, especially in the common spaces in the apartment, to be relatively lacking.

The film on the bathroom mirror, the scum around the bathroom sink, the particles that inevitably get stuck to the sides of the toilet bowl, the mildew on the shower curtain liner, the oily residue deposited on the range hood by the vent - all of these things seem to pass unnoticed, or worse permissible.

While I am dismayed at the obliviousness of my compatriot, the husband, I have wondered to what degree the wife's superficial idea of cleaning could derive from a cultural residue, pun intended. I am nearly 30 years old and am not a clean freak in the most rigid sense of the term. I grew up in a household where cleaning and organization happened, but by no means produced a hermetically sealed box.

I guess I took a bit of solace in reading this post. It does not suggest I should have a negative image of my Chinese roommate, just that there needs to be more dialog and or, ultimately, that we may not be well suited to live together. I fear the latter is more than likely since her American husband cannot seem to grasp the importance of pursuing routine hygiene (and he delegates most of those duties to his wife).

Phillip, this is HILARIOUS!! A year ago I gave my now six-year-old son my old PC and he's taken to it like a fish to water. Even before he was a proficient reader, he quickly learned to navigate and customize IE and XP by using icons. He'll LOVE this, thanks!

I came across your Office Hours: Top 10 Most Useful Secret Ninja Moves in Office. I love your writing style! I publish a blog with IT news and info for our company (hosted locally) using WordPress and I try to inject as much humor as I can and I too am fond of using Ninja and Kung Fu reference as often as possible, lol!
